Famous people and their Christenings
Celebrity baby Christenings have become the cutting-edge fashion among celebrities. Since Madonna and Guy Ritchie chose to christen the then four-month-old Rocco in a 13th century Scottish castle ringed by the rich and illustrious, many other celebs have followed the trend. When Celine Dion baptised baby son Rene-Charles in 2001, the Montreal ceremony was broadcast on Canadian TV.
Liz Hurley Christened son Damian in Kensington, then there was Bluebell Madonna, the daughter of Geri Halliwell. Charlotte Church and Gavin Henson sold the photo rights of their son Dexter’s christening to Hello magazine.
One of Jade Goody’s final wishes was to be christened before she passed away. The event took place in the chapel hospital, Jade’s two sons were christened at the same time.
The Beckham’s chose to have Romeo and Brooklyn christened together, the party held at their Sawbridgeworth residence with a the guest list would have graced a Hollywood premiere, one can only imagine the christening gifts list.
Of course any celebrity Christening would not be complete without celebrity Godparents. Liz Hurleys choice was Hugh Grant and Sir Elton John, Sir Elton featured once again as godparent to the young Beckham’s. The list is endless, Sting-godparent to Madonna’s son Rocco, Victoria Beckham – godparent to Bluebell, daughter of Geri Halliwell, Michael Jackson – godparent to Nicole Ritchie, daughter of Lionel Ritchie, Steven Spielberg – godparent to Drew Barrymore and Bono – godparent to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s twins.
Other famous christenings include Mary Rose, Bounty, Cutty Sark, Golden Hind, yes you noticed, not film stars or footballers, all are famous boats. It is intended that a proper christening and the accompanying ceremony ensures good fortune to the lady and her crew throughout the life of the vessel. Of course this ceremony involves breaking a bottle of champagne on the bow of the boat, not something to be recurrent at your child’s christening.
